Friday Night Aquathlon Series 2008/2009 - Race 7 - January 16th

Perfect conditions for the second aquathlon of the year and another good field. 18 in the main race plus Dave doing just the swim and 6 youngsters keen to have a go at the kids aquathlon.

With Dave only doing the swim due to injury the overall race was wide open and all the contenders were in the last wave. Dave flew off as expected with Adrian and the two Andrews battling for best of the rest in the pool. A last lap burst saw El Presidente beat Adrian for the quickest swim split by 1 second with Andrew J a further 5 seconds back. First timer Laurel split that group, picking up the third fastest overall swim split in 8:20.

Adrian was first out of transition but couldn't hang on for long against the two Andrews who would battle along the whole run course with Andrew J taking the win by 17 seconds. Tony and Nev were out of the pool around a minute behind the others in the last wave but powered past Adrian and Michael to battle much the same as the Andrews, Tony beating Nev for third by 17 seconds. Hannah H once again showed the adults the way by taking the overall female victory with the 6th fastest run split of 17:56.

Series Points: We had 11 members racing, all except Laurel had times to beat, Laurel picked up 5 points for completing her first race. After taking maximum points from her last 2 outings Elicia missed out this time, but only just. Elissa took the 30 points with an improvement over her handicap of almost 5.5%, with Elicia improving by just over 5%. Others to beat their handicap were Ben B by a bit over 4% and Tony and Nev just.

Wally's absence for the second race in a row saw him drop from 4th to 5th and Cath's absence saw her drop from the lead to 4th (the same as Wally did last time). Mr Consistency and defending series champion Tony (130 pts) has taken the lead by 2 points over Nev with Adrian jumping into 3rd with 114 points. Elicia's phenomenal improvements from just 4 starts sees her tied with Michael for 7th overall and just 5 points behind Lisa, 3rd in the female rankings. Josh's 4th race of the season has pushed him into 10th, just 1 point ahead of El Presidente Andrew S.

Full points standings and list of current handicap times is here.

Well done to everyone including the 6 kids that did the Kids Aquathlon this week and as usual a big thanks to all the volunteers. Here are the full results.
