Overcast and cool conditions usually don't see big attendances on a Friday Night but this week saw the biggest field since February 2007.
We had 22 starters in the main race and 7 in the kids' race prior.
First up were the kids. 200m swims for most and then a shorter version of the senior run.
Hannah Jeppesen was quickest in the water and then held on on the run to beat Olivia Hume (taking after her father by having clearly the quickest run split) home by 12 seconds.
It was great to see all the kids having a go and also to see them all within a minute or two of each other as well. Well done kids!
In the main game, there were again some very impressive performances from the youngsters.
In what was the fastest HTC Biathlon since the Female Course Record was set in December 2007, first-timer Jared and fellow youngster Ben M both had top 4 swim splits, run splits and overall positions.
In the water, there were 3 swims under 8 minutes (for the first time since February) and another 4 under 8:10.
Jared clocked 7:29 with John B and Emiel not far behind.
The fastest female swimmer was Hilary in 9:48 with Kath not far back in 9:59.
The run leg was a cracker with plenty of close times and position changes.
Former NSTC member Stewart ran the only sub-15 split of the night with a 14:47, but Jared's 15:05 was enough to hang on for a great win.
Further back in the pack, sixth, seventh and the tie for eighth were separated by just 15 seconds with Andrew J winning that battle.
Two youngsters - Josh and Ben B - tied for 16th with Ben taking a 51 second lead out of the pool but Josh pegging it back for a tie in 30:23.
In the ladies battle, Kath managed to overhaul Hilary's lead out of the water and pushed on to beat Lisa home by a bit over 1 & 1/2 minutes.
Series Points: Of the 22 in the main race there were 16 members, 12 of whom had handicaps.
The other 4 picked up 5 points for their first race as members and scored themselves a handicap time for next time.
Much closer on the points front this week with all but one of the members remaining within 3% of their handicap time.
The biggest improver was Lisa whose 29:31 was 2.68% under handicap.
She was followed by Wally and Cath who were around 1.5% better and then Ben M, John B and Adrian who all had slight improvements.
After 2 rounds Cath Hume (56) has retained the lead, she has a 6 point lead over Wally who has moved into second.
Michael has dropped to third a further 6 points back with Adrian sitting in fourth with 40 points.
Next is Nev (38) and then a tie for sixth between the second lady Lisa (35) and Josh (35).
Full points leaderboard and list of current handicap times is here.
Well done to everyone especially all newcomers and all the kids.
